(Mostly taken from the mailing list of the University of Tartu Academic Mountaineering Club)

In 2009, the Russian mountaineering circle 'MAI' undertook a two-month climb in the Pamir Mountains, covering more than 600 km. Among the peaks ascended were Communism Peak (7,495 m), Lenin Peak (7,134 m), and Revolution Peak (6,940 m) - two of them used to count towards obtaining the coveted Snow Leopard award of the Soviet Union.

A video of their climb has been posted on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvXu6RTa ... r_embedded.

The summary of their trip can be accessed here, although good understanding of Russian is required.

Leader of the group, Andrei Lebedev, should know the Pamir region well enough: he has been or taken groups there in 1992, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005-2007. In 1999, 'MAI' did a similar climb in Pamir Mountains, covering "just" 476 km.

Tough stuff.
