post skye

General NewsSkye is over, and i know you all had fun, with some special odes and, thanks to the cyclists, even more special speeches. there was also yet another distubing insight into our presidents mind- but i'm trying to forget that.

jack ended up with a lot of lost property, and while i'm sure some of it is mine i don't need all of it- so collect it from him at some point. people should be in the pat at the usual times between now and next semester.

there is a day meet planned to Creag Meagaidh on feb 14- sign up on wednesday or email jack if you're intersted.

see you all in a few weeks

Zach

Ps. does anyone know how these bruises appeared on my thigh?

Gear night, trips and socials

General News

There's no trip signup this week, just a list of various short missives about upcoming events. See below for trips away, cheap kit, cheap outdoor training, Nov 5 bonfires and the Adrenaline Ball. We'll still be in the pub wednesday lunch and thursday evening

DISCOUNT OUTDOOR GEAR
Tiso - the nearest good outdoor - in Dundee has a discount gear night tomorrow (Tues). It's 25% off climbing equipment, and 15% off most else. it you've been waiting to get a harness, rock shoes, walking boots etc this is probably about as cheap as you'll find them. A number of us will be going after the wall session tomorrow as the Sports Centre.

CHEAP TRAINING
Each year the club gets a chance to send people on a cheap training weekend at Glenmore Lodge on the 15th and 16th November.  The cost is £30, but the Club subsidises it, as does the University, so the cost to you is only £10.

Space is limited, and priority will go to those of you who are willing to help run the club and lead groups in the future.  That doesn't mean we will insist you lead groups as soon as you get back though!

The weekend is run by instructors from the lodge and elsewhere. It is aimed at people who might help organise meets, or lead groups on the hill.

It includes topics such as:
- legal liability of walk leaders and clubs
- looking after club kit
- navigation skills
- incident management, rescue and first aid
- looking after novices on the hill
- holding a lead fall
- rock climbing skills
- scrambling skills and risk assessment
It includes time in lecture theatres and time on the hill.

Some more info here:
http://www.mcofs.org.uk/university-clubs-seminar.asp

If you're interested, email me (jmb57) as soon as possible, and I'll see if I can get you a place

SOCIAL TOMFOOLERY!
Remember, remember the 5th of November for bonfires, bouldering and
(the)beach. Hopefully the bruises have healed(unlike our toilet seat)
and you have finally untied from the roped flat crawl. This week, as
it's bonfire-night, we're heading down to the Maiden on the 5th for some
Bonfire-night shenanigans, we've got fireworks, a big pile of wood and
some BBQs so get yourself down to East Sands Leisure centre(or along to
the maiden if you know the way)for 8.30pm on Wednesday and try your hand
at a bit of night bouldering at St Andrews best(by default) bouldering
spot. Bring a Guy and points will be awarded for the one that looks most
like the President. The canoe club are coming along as well so there
should be lots of new people to mock for their affinity to playing poo
sticks, or whatever the canoe club involves.
If you're free on Tuesday afternoon we could do with some wood
collectors get in contact with El Presidente for details.

ADRENALINE BALL
The date is set for the Adrenaline Ball - so on Friday the 28th of
November we will descend on the Scores hotel for a night of Dinner and
dubious dancing. We've got a 3 course dinner, a ceilidh band, disco and
the spectacle of English people trying to dance to a ceilidh and
mountaineers trying to dance to a disco. The cost of tickets are £29.50
for dinner and dance and £15 for the dance. Give your money to Jack at
the Pat or me at the wall. It's one of the best nights of the year so
get your money in early to avoid a lonely night crying into your pillow
on the 28th.

Week 3

General News

Welcome!

It's great to see so many people showing an interest in the club.  If you are interested and have not yet signed up, I'll be at every club event below, so you can sign up any time.  If you're interested but don't want to join just yet, send an email to our secretary, and we'll add you to our mailing list to keep you up to date.  In the meantime, here's a rundown of what's happening this week.

Sign-up

Signup this week is for a walking trip to Ben Lomond. This is a lovely hill next to Loch Lomond (funnily enough). Trip will be a day trip leaving on Saturday 25 October, back that night. Those that fancy it come along to the signup at the Pat this Wednesday.

Social

This weeks social event is the Darkrooms night at the union and/or Pat-chat. If you have a predilection for electronica and happen to have a boiler-suit about your person then Thursday night is the night for you.
Following on from our bizarrely successful, poorly planned & terribly executed robot fancy dress from last years techno-night( check the bottom picture for our fearless web officer contribution) we're doing it again but with an 'industrial' theme - so get to the pound shop on market street and get creative. Warm up will be from 8ish at No. 42 Largo, so bring a solvent of your choice and look for the glow-stick on the door.
For those with a (depending on perspective) more discerning musical/irony taste the Pat will be host to some more civilised
discourse from the usual time of 9.30ish.

Have Fun!

Summer in Scotland

General News

Exams are over, and most people are heading home. Summer is coming to Scotland, the season of long, easy walks, warm rock to climb and, unfortunatly, midges.

The club is pretty much inactive over the summer, but there are a few of us still in St Andrews, and there will be plenty of mountaineering going on elsewhere too. Don't forget to check the forums occasionally, something may get organised.

If you are reading this and thinking about coming to St Andrews, or perhaps you are coming, and are thinking about joining the club, then have a look about the site, and if you have any questions make a post in the forums and someone will be along with answers.

Enjoy your summer everyone!

Club Hoodies

General NewsHOODY TIME!!!

You will all be ecstatic to learn that all the details for club hoodies have been finalised and I can finally reveal them to you fine people.

You have the option of ordering a hoody in either Khaki or Olive Green (dusky colours in keeping with our outdoorsiness). Each hoody features an exciting new club crest printed large on the back with "St Andrews University Mountaineering Club" embroidered on the front. I will post an image of the new crest on the club website so you can all be wowed by how cool it looks.
Base price is £23 each, however for £25 you can have personalised embroidery on the sleeve, so you can proudly display your name, nickname, alias or casual insult to offend clergymen. Your choice.

"This is the club badge that will be printed on the back of the new club hoodies"

Thursday night

General NewsHello everyone

I hope you've all had a pleasant and stimulating holiday and are ready for a fun night this Thursday. The plan as of today is to meet in the Whey Pat at 7pm on Thursday with the premise of dining on cheesy nachos and a wee drink before moving on to 1 Golf Place, the Central, the Centurion, Aikmans, etc. Final destinations and quantity of pubs will be determined on the night, but that's a rough idea. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. And hope your new classes are going OK. See you all soon
